CMS to host “Future of Digital Business” forum in Davos

19/01/2016

Frankfurt, 19 January 2016. For the second year, CMS, a top ten international law firm, in conjunction with Germany’s leading weekly newspaper Die Zeit, has invited business and political leaders to meet in Davos on 21 January to discuss current developments that are significantly impacting our world. The topic of this year’s forum is “The Future of Digital Business”.

The forum will feature several discussions with experts such as Travis Kalanick, co-founder and CEO of UBER Technologies Inc. as well as Javier Olivan, Vice President of Growth at Facebook, Taavet Hinrikus, co-founder and CEO of TransferWise, Koos Timmermans, Vice Chairman of ING Bank and Chris Watson, Global Head of the TMC Group at CMS.

New technologies are changing the way we do business and communicate. Companies such as UBER, Facebook and TransferWise are disrupting industries with innovative, technology-driven business models. In future, companies will need to rethink their business strategies and embrace technology to remain competitive in crowded markets.

Chris Watson comments, “With such a rapid advance of technology driving innovation and efficiency, businesses must adapt if only to ensure they don't get left behind. Transformative technologies such as big data and the internet-of-things will be a source of strength across all industry sectors and there is great opportunity. However with opportunity comes risk. Issues such as cyber security and IP infringement continue to challenge businesses across the globe.”

“Increased digitisation is impacting all industries, from consumer products and energy to financial services and lifesciences. Companies will need to innovate to deal with the challenges and benefit from the opportunities. It is equally important that lawmakers review and update existing legislation. The technology, communications and media experts at CMS work closely with our clients to find the right solutions to help them successfully manage this development,” said Cornelius Brandi, Executive Chairman of CMS. “We have an excellent lineup of speakers. I very much look forward to the insights they will provide as well as sharing views and experiences with our guests in Davos.”

The event is by personal invitation only and will take place from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Thursday, 21 January 2016.

The CMS Technology, Media and Communications team consists of 100 specialist technology, media and communications lawyers in 33 jurisdictions, operating from 59 offices across the globe. The group’s clients range from multinationals and major domestic companies to high growth businesses and start-ups and their investors across the complete and increasingly converged TMC sector spectrum.
