Charity Partner 2015/2016 – War Child

War Child is our Charity of the Year for 2015 / 2016. The charity works in six countries, each struggling to support children caught up in war and conflict. War Child is supporting the most vulnerable children and schools in those countries. Its work includes creating safe spaces where children can escape from battlefields, getting children back into education after conflict, helping older children develop sustainable livelihoods and helping children to have their voices heard and rights respected.

Led by CMS UK, the partnership with War Child has been supported by all CMS offices, globally, through corporate donations and employee involvement.

The alignment of common goals and values between the two organisations, and the engagement in innovative fundraising strategies has resulted in over 3,000 hours volunteered and over £250,000 raised for War Child so far. The impact has been significant. The partnership has already helped over 3,700 children across six countries. The funding has also paid for War Child’s entry into Yemen, child protection training for 25 teachers, life skills intervention for 100 families, the creation of two child-friendly spaces where children can learn and play in safety, the provision of school uniforms, stationery and school fees for over 1,000 children, and has allowed for 19,000 people to be indirectly supported in communities.

The combination of making best use of our capability as a global law firm, and genuine mutual aims that inspire our people has led to the most successful partnership ever for both parties in terms of fundraising and engagement.

The partnership with War Child has exceeded all our expectations and we therefore have decided to extend the partnership until the end of summer 2016.
