Rainer Wachter is New Partner at CMS

International law firm CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz has again won a high-profile partner: on 1 October, Rainer Wachter, long-time managing partner at Skadden in Vienna, will join the firm as a partner and co-head of the CMS corporate transactions team. He is specialised in M&A transactions, compliance issues and capital market transactions.

Rainer Wachter, who has eight years of international experience as a lawyer (New York, London and Frankfurt), headed the Vienna office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, one of the largest and most successful law firms in the world, as managing partner for 20 years. The distin-guished expert in cross-border M&A transactions is also specialised in the field of compliance (including forensic investigations) and capital market transactions. On 1 October, he will join CMS in Vienna as a partner, where he will co-head the CMS corporate transactions team together with Peter Huber.

Rainer Wachter has made significant contributions to numerous major transactions for Austrian and international clients in Austria, Central and Eastern European countries as well as the USA and China.

Rainer Wachter (55) has advised both Austrian and international clients on cross-border M&A transactions with a focus on Austria and CEE, but also the USA and China, for many years. He frequently represents private equity firms with regard to their investments in Austria and CEE. Rainer Wachter also advises international companies and governments on issues of corporate compliance and related investigations. In the field of corporate finance, he represents banks and issuers in international capital market transactions and financings, focusing on IPOs and acquisi-tion financings. He has many years of experience with international arbitration proceedings, in particular investment treaty arbitrations.

Rainer Wachter is admitted to the bar in Vienna, New York, England and Wales and has repeat-edly been listed as a leading expert in Austria in corporate/M&A, banking & finance as well as capital markets by the legal directories Chambers Global and Legal500.

He studied law at the University of Innsbruck and received a MBA from the Vienna University of Economics and Business. He also completed the post-graduate programme “Master of Com-parative Law – M.C.L.” at the University of San Diego (USA). He has authored many publica-tions, among them “Due Diligence, Selected Legal Issues” in the manual “Mergers & Acquisi-tions”, edited by Polster-Grüll, Zöchling and Kranebitter, and regularly lectures on compliance topics.
