AFINUM advised by CMS on acquisition of ChainMaster

22/08/2018

Munich – Munich-based mid-market investor AFINUM has acquired all the shares in ChainMaster Bühnentechnik GmbH through its portfolio company LIFTKET Hoffmann GmbH. Following the acquisition, LIFTKET and ChainMaster intend to further expand the development and manufacture of hoists and controls for precise and safe positioning of lighting and sound equipment. The parties agreed not to disclose details of the purchase price.

A CMS team headed by lead partner Oliver Thurn advised AFINUM on the legal aspects of the transaction. The private equity investor has repeatedly worked with the Munich CMS office. Last year the law firm advised on the investment in IT service provider Garz & Fricke, and more recently on the investment in Zeit für Brot by AFINUM Achte Beteiligungsgesellschaft.

ChainMaster, an event and stage technology specialist, develops hoist technology in the form of automated system solutions that include controls, software, and operator interfaces. LIFTKET Hoffmann GmbH is a platform investment of AFINUM Siebte Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG. It was acquired at the end of 2016 as part of a succession plan. LIFTKET is a leading manufacturer of hoists with worldwide sales. After the investment by AFINUM, ChainMaster will continue operating as a separate company with its established brand and its facility in Eilenburg near Leipzig.

AFINUM is an independent management-owned private equity firm with offices in Munich, Zurich, Vienna and Hong Kong. It specialises in taking stakes in successful mid-market companies in the German-speaking region of Europe.
