CMS Hasche Sigle advises Holtzbrinck Verlag on sale of majority stake in Saarbrücker Zeitung

Stuttgart – A team led by lead partners Dr Thomas Meyding and Dr Maximilian Grub has advised on the sale of the majority stake in Saarbrücker Zeitung Verlag und Druckerei GmbH held by the Georg von Holtzbrinck publishing group. GSB (Gesellschaft für staatsbürgerliche Bildung Saar mbH) will take a 52.33% share in the nominal capital of Saarbrücker Zeitung by mid-2014 at the latest. The transaction is currently awaiting approval from Germany’s Federal Cartel Office. The purchase price was not disclosed.

The Saarbrücker Zeitung is one of the oldest daily newspapers in Germany. With average paid-for sales of around 155,000 it reaches some 500,000 readers a day. As the leading newspaper in the Saarland region, it offers a combination of comprehensive local coverage and high quality reporting of national news. The Saarbrücker Zeitung media group also includes the Trierischer Volksfreund, Lausitzer Rundschau from Cottbus and the Pfälzische Merkur, published in Zweibrücken. The group's other activities include postal services, phonebooks and business directories, Internet portals and IT services.
