CMS Hasche Sigle partner meeting: Dr Hubertus Kolster re-elected as managing partner

12/11/2018

Berlin – Dr Hubertus Kolster has been re-elected for another four years as managing partner of commercial law firm CMS. The firm’s partners gave their overwhelming approval for Kolster’s third term in office at the annual partner meeting held on 10 November 2018 in Bonn.

Dr Kolster has been at the helm of Germany’s largest commercial law firm since 2011. During that period, he has successfully driven the firm’s development across a number of areas. Total fee income and income per fee earner have increased substantially, indicating the high quality of the business handled. CMS Germany’s innovative approach to legal services has earned it a strong position among the top segment of national and international companies in recent years and enabled it to win new high-calibre instructions.

“I’m delighted by the partnership’s renewed vote of confidence and I look forward to continuing the success story of CMS Germany together with my colleagues and addressing issues around new business models and structures,” said Kolster, speaking after his re-election. “Changes in the legal market, combined with increasing digitisation, are triggering a major transformation in the lawyer’s environment. We need to prepare for this and create sustainable structures. One reason our clients rely on CMS for ongoing advice and for assistance with strategic issues is that rather than just reacting to innovative developments, we are actively involved in shaping them.” Kolster went on to say that he is excited and highly motivated with regard to the upcoming challenges and tasks.

Cornelius Brandi, senior partner at CMS Germany and Chairman of the Executive Board of CMS firms, commented thus on Kolster’s re-election: “Hubertus Kolster stands for systematic change processes that reflect digital transformation, successful engagement with emerging areas of legal advice and further development of the firm in an international context. It is thanks to his forward-looking management that CMS Germany is not only ideally positioned in the national market, but is also an attractive advisor for global companies. I am delighted by his re-election and look forward to continuing our fruitful collaboration.”

Born in 1962, Dr Hubertus Kolster has been a lawyer in CMS’s Frankfurt office since 1993 and a partner there since 1997. In 1999 and 2000, he worked for CMS in London and for a US law firm in New York. He headed the Frankfurt CMS office from 2002 to 2008 as co-managing partner and from 2009 to 2011 as local managing partner. As a lawyer, he specialises in corporate and business law as well as advising on M&A transactions, and has worked on numerous national and international transactions.
