WIRSOL successfully advised by CMS: Major German solar park connected to grid

29/02/2016

Hamburg – One of the largest German solar power plants of the year has now been connected to the grid. The Plütscheid plant in the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate generates peak power of almost 10 MWp. The solar park is a project realised by developer and energy service provider WIRCON GmbH (under its WIRSOL brand) and non-profit Bürgerservice GmbH Trier (BÜS). Constructed on a site of around 18 hectare, it feeds its electricity into the grid via a 16-kilometre cable line.

A team headed by lead partner Dr Niklas Ganssauge advised WIRCON GmbH on all aspects of the project. The team was involved in acquiring the project rights, the construction and financing of the solar park, and in the sale of the project. Two major challenges were successfully dealt with. Firstly, the deadline for switching over to the tender model for photovoltaic plants was fast approaching. Secondly, it was necessary to plan the relatively long (16-kilometre) cable line efficiently for connection of the solar power plant and to ensure its status.

WIRSOL is a trademark of energy service provider WIRCON GmbH. The company's mission includes the development and construction of renewable energy facilities based on wind and photovoltaics in Germany and other European countries. WIRCON GmbH recently built a solar park with a capacity of around 61 MWp in Denmark, backed by legal support from CMS. It is now planning to construct a 30 MWp project in Holland, again with advice from CMS.
