CMS advises Restaurant Brands International (Burger King) on the arrival of Popeyes to Spanish shores

CMS has advised Restaurant Brands International on the establishment and franchising of fried chicken brand Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen in Spain.

Signed last week, the deal sees Popeyes as the latest brand to participate in the joint venture between Burger King GmbH and Quick Meals Ibérica. Founded in early 2016, the venture sought to create an alliance between the owner of the Burger King brand and at the time largest franchisee in Spain, and foresees the long-term expansion of the brand, not to mention the management of other franchisees owning Burger King, Tim Hortons and from now on Popeyes outlets in Spain.

Popeyes, launched in New Orleans in 1972 and currently boasting over 3,100 establishments across the globe, is making its debut in the European market with Spain its first destination.

The deal is a further example of Restaurant Brands International’s continuous investment in its ambitious long-term plan to reach 40,000 eateries in Spain over the next decade. CMS had previously advised on the arrival in Spain of Tim Hortons and on the franchise agreements between the Canadian coffee chain and Burger King.
