Spotlight Series - Senior Managers Regime (Edinburgh)

Our Scottish FS breakfast seminar series starts post summer break on Friday 15 September with a look at the FCA's Senior Manager & Certification Regime (SMR).

The extension of the SMR beyond banks and insurers to the rest of the financial sector is a major regulatory development for affected firms. It will require all firms within some six to nine months:

• To formally allocate responsibilities to senior managers, and record them on formal regulatory job descriptions
• To become the direct regulator of middle managers and customer-facing staff with responsibility to ensure they are fit and proper
• To ensure nearly all staff understand and follow the FCA’s conduct rules.

This seminar will cover the new regime, offering clear and practical guidance on:

• How to identify and categorise affected staff
• Preparing formal regulatory job descriptions and (if required) an overall responsibilities map
• Helping senior management to understand the practical meaning of the new duty of responsibility
• Training staff on the new rules
• Amending contracts of employment and embedding the changes in HR procedures
• Establishing and running a project to ensure successful implementation.
