CMS Of Counsel appointed to APPG AI Data Governance Taskforce

11 February 2019

CMS Of Counsel Dr Rachel Free has been appointed to the Data Governance Taskforce for the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Artificial Intelligence (APPG AI).

Established in January 2017, the APPG AI aims to explore the impact of artificial intelligence, addressing the economic, social, and ethical implications of developing and implementing AI (including machine learning, natural language understanding, automated reasoning, autonomous systems, etc). Data Governance is one of four taskforces set up by the APPG AI.

The Data Governance Taskforce will explore the interrelationship of data governance and AI governance, focusing on understanding how data used by AI systems is gathered and applied. As part of its remit, the taskforce will participate in parliamentary evidence meetings as well as support the APPG secretariat in briefing MPs to provide them with an overview of each evidence meeting, written evidence submitted by stakeholders, and facts and figures regarding AI.

CMS has been a key supporter of the APPG AI since its formation. Partner Charles Kerrigan sits on the group’s Advisory Board, and Head of TMT Clive Gringras is an Expert Advisor to the group.
