CMS adds disputes partner to strengthen financial services regulatory team

02/07/2018

CMS is delighted to announce the appointment of Elisabeth Bremner as a Partner in the firm’s Financial Services Regulatory team in London. She joins the firm from Norton Rose Fulbright.

Elisabeth focuses on regulatory investigations in the financial services sector and has over twenty years' experience representing clients involving UK and offshore regulators, including the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), Serious Fraud Office (SFO) and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). She has significant experience in undertaking independent internal investigations in relation to market abuse, insider trading and trader mis-marking in the investment banking and hedge fund sectors and also advises the retail industry in areas such as fraud, sanctions breaches, mis-selling and complaints mishandling.

Simon Pilcher, Head of the Financial Markets & Pensions Group at CMS UK, comments: “We are delighted to welcome Elisabeth to the firm. Financial services remains a key area for us, and with a growing emphasis on stricter conduct and prudential regulation, the volume of work is likely to continue to increase in coming years. Elisabeth has a great reputation in the market and she will add significant strength in depth to our existing, highly regarded team, working alongside Simon Morris and Alison McHaffie on the contentious side."

Commenting on her appointment, Elisabeth adds: “I am looking forward to joining the team at CMS. The line between contentious and non-contentious regulatory work is becoming increasingly blurred, with the regulators focusing on the risk and governance aspects of almost every issue faced by a financial institution. The combined Financial Services Regulatory team at CMS offers me a great platform to develop my practice.”
