CMS adds further bench strength to ICE disputes arm

19 November 2018

CMS is pleased to announce the appointment of international disputes specialist Terry de Souza as a Consultant in the firm’s Infrastructure, Construction and Energy (ICE) Disputes team. Terry’s appointment marks the second hire for the group this month, following Catherine Gelder’s arrival from Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner (BCLP). Terry also joins CMS from BCLP where he was a partner.

Steven Williams, Joint Head of the ICE Disputes group at CMS UK, comments: “This is another exciting appointment for the group. Terry is an accomplished lawyer, with significant international disputes experience having worked on a variety of large-scale infrastructure and engineering projects spanning 21 countries. His appointment marks a continuation of our ambitious growth strategy, as we seek to build up the team and increase our disputes capability both in the UK and internationally.”

Terry specialises in claims and disputes in the High Court and in international arbitration. He is also involved in resolving disputes by Alternative Dispute Resolution. He has wide experience in major infrastructure projects and engineering contracts with particular expertise in the oil, gas and petrochemical sector. He has advised clients on projects in the UK, Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, Asia and Australasia, acting for a variety of owners, developers, major contractors, specialist subcontractors and consultants. He is a ranked practitioner in Chambers and regarded by the market as an “impressive practitioner”.

Commenting on his appointment, Terry adds: “I’m excited to join CMS, a firm which offers an expansive global platform for me to pursue my interest in resolving international disputes and further develop the infrastructure, construction and energy practice."
