CMS advises equIP member RAVN Systems on its acquisition by iManage

31 May 2017

CMS has advised the founders of artificial intelligence (AI) expert RAVN Systems on its sale to iManage, a US-based provider of Work Product Management solutions.

Founded in 2010, RAVN has developed an AI platform that automates the organisation and discovery of relevant information from large volumes of documents and unstructured data. RAVN's unique proprietary technology has been trained by experts in a number of law firms and corporations and continues to learn as it is used.

The CMS team was led by Corporate Partner Anthony Waller, and supported by Associate Kirsty Bell and Trainee Issy Hamilton.

This is the second sale of an equIP programme member that the firm has been involved in over the past six months. equIP, a legacy Olswang programme adopted by CMS following the firms’ high profile combination, is designed to give UK scale-ups and entrepreneurs the tools they need to grow and succeed. Through the programme, CMS lawyers and specialists act as trusted advisors to equIP members, providing legal advice and support to help accelerate their growth potential. RAVN were selected to join the equIP programme in April 2016.

Peter Wallqvist, Founder and CSO at RAVN, comments:

“We are delighted to see through our successful sale to iManage. It has been a great to work with Anthony Waller and his team at CMS, who were instrumental in steering us through to a successful close. The whole CMS team worked tirelessly to meet challenging deadlines throughout the deal, never compromising on the high standard of the advice and guidance they gave to the principal sellers. We were very proud that RAVN was selected for the equIP programme, and over the course of the last year, we have gained valuable insights and advice through our membership that has undoubtedly helped to get us to this point. We would recommend that any entrepreneur looking for a trusted legal partner to support the growth of their business should consider joining the equIP Programme."

Anthony Waller, who also leads the firm's equIP Programme, comments:

“This is an important development for RAVN, which will enable it to invest in and grow its channels through access to an additional 3,000 iManage organisations worldwide. It is also testament to the success of equIP, which we believe is a strategically important programme enabling some of the UK's best new businesses to lay critical foundations and set them up for success in their sectors.”
