CMS advises on Cancer Research UK and British Council relocation to Stratford’s iconic International Quarter London

4 August 2017

CMS has advised Lendlease and London and Continental Railways, joint venture partners of International Quarter London, on the relocation of Cancer Research UK and The British Council to the International Quarter London development, located next to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Stratford.

Cancer Research UK and The British Council will jointly occupy the majority of the third commercial building to be built at International Quarter London totalling 280,000 sq. ft., bringing the total number of people soon to be working at the development to over 8,000.

CMS advised on the pre-let agreements, tax and the property owning structure to relocate the two leading British institutions’ headquarters, the latest high-profile organisations to choose the £2.4 billion development in Stratford as their new base, alongside Transport for London and the Financial Conduct Authority.

The CMS team was led by Real Estate Transaction’s partner Nicholas Vergette, with support from Chris D’Emanuele, Chris Oakley, Michael Beanland and Keith Barber (Real Estate), Alistair McGrigor (Construction), Phil Anderson and Andrew Brooker (Tax) and Darren Stolzenberg and William Lawrence (Corporate).

Commenting on the deal, Nicholas Vergette said: "International Quarter London’s workplaces have been designed with new workstyles in mind and we are pleased to have supported our client in securing these leading British institutions as key tenants. This deal supports the attractiveness of Stratford as a business community and builds on the area’s regeneration following the successful 2012 Olympic Games.”
