Alasdair is a senior associate in the Technology & Media Department and has particular experience advising clients in the gambling, media and sports sectors. 

His expertise includes e-commerce and consumer protection, gambling law and regulation, commercial contracts, advertising regulation, and media rights exploitation. He regularly advises clients in the gambling sector on a range of commercial and regulatory matters, including in respect of software/platform licences and services agreements, brand licences, operator licence applications, and regulatory enforcement action, as well as providing commercial and regulatory support on corporate mergers and acquisitions. He also has particular experience advising sports media rights holders on the tender and grant of their rights.

  • Hard Rock Digital (HRD) on its strategic partnership with Playtech plc, which sees Playtech supply HRD with casino, live games and other software and services for use as part of HRD’s online gambling offerings worldwide.
  • Endeavor on the UK gambling regulatory aspects of its acquisition of OpenBet.
  • The International Cricket Council (ICC) on the media rights tender, bidding and evaluation process worldwide for ICC events held from 2024 to 2031, including the rights granted to Disney Star for India. Separately advised the ICC on its digital content rights tender process, which saw Facebook become the exclusive digital content rights partner in the Indian sub-continent for ICC events.
  • Gamesys (now part of Bally’s) on the commercial and regulatory aspects of its sale (other than its sports brands and games) to JPJ Group. 
  • The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on the sale of the ECB’s broadcasting and other media rights for all of its domestic and international matches played at home from 2020-2024, representing a combined income of GBP 1.1bn for the ECB.
  • 888 on a range of gambling regulatory, commercial and compliance matters.
  • The Rank Group on the commercial and regulatory aspects of its takeover of online gaming company Stride. 
  • Comcast on the gambling regulatory aspects of its bid for, and acquisition of, Sky.
