Jenny Nanalal is a partner in our Financial Services team, where she advises financial institutions on capital-driven transactions and associated regulatory matters, with a particular focus on risk transfer in the pensions and life insurance markets (including associated counterparty risk mitigation techniques).

She has more than 10 years’ experience in this area and has acted for insurers, reinsurers, pension schemes and investment banks (including Pension Insurance Corporation, L&G, Pacific Life, Zurich, SCOR and Deutsche Bank) on some of the most innovative and large-scale transactions in the market. 

Alongside Thomas Lockley and Owen Ross, Jenny is part of the highly successful  Insurance, Risk and Capital Transactions Team, which is the largest team in the City for bespoke insurance and pensions risk transactions.

Relevant experience

  • Advising Pension Insurance Corporation on its reinsurance arrangements, including innovative longevity swap conversions, reinsurance of deferred liabilities, flow reinsurance arrangements, and associated counterparty credit risk and Solvency II recognition considerations. 
  • Advising a Bermudan reinsurer on its first funded reinsurance of European life risk, including related credit support arrangements.
  • Advising insurance companies on capital treatment of assets and liabilities, counterparty risk solutions and matching adjustments under Solvency II.
  • Advising L&G on the conversion into a bulk annuity transaction, of a longevity swap entered into between trustees of a FTSE 100 company pension scheme and the swap provider. This complex conversion was the first of its type, and required the termination of the existing swap arrangements. the collapse of a transformer cell structure and the contemporaneous transition of a portfolio of reinsurances.
  • A UK insurer on its reinsurance arrangements with a major global reinsurer in respect of deferred pension scheme liabilities. 
  • A UK insurer on its preparations for Brexit. 
  • SCOR Global Life SE on a number of its reinsurance arrangements with UK insurers, as well as an innovative longevity transaction with the Netherlands-based insurer Aegon.
