Paula Hryckowiak is an advocate (qualified in England & Wales and Poland) and Senior Associate in Corporate and Leverage Finance Department at CMS. Before joining London office in 2018, she worked for almost 10 years in CMS Warsaw office. She specialises in corporate and acquisition financing projects and cross-border transactions. Over the years spent at CMS she worked for banks, institutional and private investors as well as companies. She was involved in different projects in various banking practice areas such as project finance (with the main focus on financings and acquisitions of wind farms), investment financings, syndicated loans, real estate financings, refinancing, corporate bonds and restructuring transactions.

In 2015 she was seconded for 8-month period to UniCredit London office, CEEMEA Loan Syndication Department. Her secondment was very successful and she returned to UniCredit for another 6 months in August 2017. During her secondment she worked on cross-border corporate and leveraged finance transactions, including the biggest syndicated loans in CEE region. This experience helped Paula to gain a unique commercial knowledge about the market and specific transaction requirements for various jurisdictions.

Relevant experience

  • The lenders on financing for the EUR 247m acquisition of Smyk business, one of the lead toy manufacturers and retailers in Europe (Poland, Romania, Switzerland and Germany), by Bridgepoint.
  • On financing for the PLN 1,965m (approx. EUR 477m) acquisition of PKP Energetyka S.A., one of the major electricity providers in Poland, including electric traction power (for rail carriers), from the State Railways in the tender process (2015), by CVC.
  • A consortium of banks, including UniCredit, Erste and the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development on €240 million senior loan to SIJ-Acroni and SIJ-Metal Ravne, the fully owned subsidiaries of Slovenska Industrija Jekla d.d.
  • Universum Specialised Open-end Investment Fund (a subsidiary of PZU, Poland’s largest insurance company) on the PLN 1.665bn (approx. EUR 402m) financing for the acquisition of Echo Investment by Echo BV, a company owned by Griffin Topco III (an entity controlled by Oaktree Capital Management).
  • EBRD and DnB on the financing of Orla wind farm in Poland built by C&C Wind, a company indirectly owned by a number of financial sponsors including Momentum Capital, Eurowatt and Winergy as well as leading turbine manufacturer Nordex Windpark Beteiligung.
