Structuring and Future-Proofing Complex Mixed-Use Developments

2 March 2018

With the UK’s increased market and political focus on the urgent need for housing delivery, our Planning Group is advising on numerous major mixed use developments where housing is a key component.

These types of scheme are complex often involving multiple stakeholders, varying land ownerships and long lead in times for delivery.

Effectively structuring the best planning strategy, applications, permissions and planning agreements for these projects at the outset has significant benefits. It can set a robust but flexible basis for a project’s evolution in terms of not only its master planning and design but also in terms of helping to cleanly dispose of or fund individual phases or buildings over time.

We have set out seven key areas that need to be addressed in the planning of these types of scheme. These are distilled from solutions we have developed in partnership with our clients over many years.

If you have an interest in these types of project (whether as developer, funder, a purchaser, local authority or landowner) we would welcome the opportunity to speak to you.
