Smart Buildings

1 October 2018

The rapid development of PropTech solutions within the real estate sector is fundamentally changing the technology within buildings, helping to optimise their performance.

What makes a building ‘smart’?

The concept of the Smart Building is that systems integrated within the building and are all connected via the Internet of Things (IoT). These systems are designed to communicate with each other using data which is analysed from wireless sensors around the building. This provides the basis to enhance the functionality of the building, making it more efficient and sustainable.

Benefits of Smart Buildings

The benefits for the occupier are considerable, using technology to reduce energy costs, improve the productivity of staff, improve overall operational management and to provide a sustainable environment for the future.

Smart buildings are not without their challenges, with one major one being that the more data that is collected and available opens up the greater possibility of cyber-attacks and data security breaches.

In order to take a closer look at what an AI enabled smart building of the future could look like, CMS has put together a flyer exploring the many different facets of a smart building which can be downloaded below.
