Zsófia Tari is an associate of the Antitrust, Competition and Trade Team at CMS Budapest. Before joining CMS she worked at the Hungarian Competition Authority for more than 8 years in different positions, of which last was acting deputy head of the Antitrust Section. She deepened her competition law expertise when she worked for the Competition Division of Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) from 2011-2013.

Zsófia has extensive experience in cartels and other horizontal agreements, vertical agreements, abuse of dominant position cases and mergers. She led in-depth investigations and actively contributed to legislative measures. Besides the competition supervision procedures she has worked on several projects and sector inquiries e.g. online markets, motor vehicle sector, fuel market.

She acted as a speaker on different conferences and seminars in the area of competition law. She was an active member of the European Competition Network (ECN) in the Online Sales as well as in the Vertical Restrains Subgroups between 2013-2016.

Relevant experience

  • Antitrust investigations: as a senior case handler she managed cartel investigations against companies in the construction and agriculture sector; investigation on vertical agreements against the major book sellers, health care companies. As an Associate she participated, among other, in the defence of a health care company and a commercial bank against price fixing investigation and helped a major participant of healthcare sector on designing its distribution setup.
  • Merger and Acquisition control: as a case handler she investigated mergers in the motor vehicle sector. As a legal advisor she participated in notifications and preliminary competition analyses both form seller and buyer side.
  • State aid procedures: participated in preliminary State aid analysis in the financial and in the transport sector.
  • Consumer protection: participated in the defence of consumer protection cases for a leading telecommunication, aviation and online booking companies.
