Cecilia van der Weijden is a member of the Corporate Practice Group and heads the Dutch energy team at CMS. She has a strong focus on the energy industry and has advised on a wide variety of corporate and regulatory issues in this sector, including mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations and privatizations. In addition, she has extensive experience advising on energy-related projects including financing aspects, representing project sponsors and lenders in the areas of conventional power plants and renewable energy. Energy trading is another key area of Cecilia's expertise. Her recent experience includes a number of pathfinder projects.

Relevant experience

  • Advised a consortium led by Cheung Kong Infrastructure Holdings Limited (CKI) on the acquisition of the Dutch waste management company AVR Afvalverwerking B.V. (AVR) from Van Gansewinkel. The value of the transaction was€ 943.7 million Euros.
  • Represents TenneT in litigation to settle a dispute regarding transmission tariffs payable by Tata Steel.
  • Advises DONG on the sale and transfer of its limited partnership interest in Gate Terminal C.V. to Gasunie and Vopak.
  • Advises the newly-installed management of Energie Data Services Nederland (EDSN) B.V. (the data services platform linking the various players in the energy sector), assessing legal aspects of the business and governance at EDSN, including the New Market Model project.
  • Advises multi-utility company DELTA N.V. on the management buy-out of solar cell and solar panel producer Solland Solar Energy Holding B.V.
  • Advises the province of Utrecht and the Utrecht Sustainability Institute on a smart grid pilot project. 
  • Advises Vestas Offshore on the turbine supply and service agreement for the offshore wind farm Q-10.
  • Advises several national and international parties on the Dutch incentive system for renewable energy, including the implications of changes to this system. 
  • Advises DONG, E.ON Benelux, RWE, Econgas and Eneco on their Wobbe quality adaptation agreements with GTS.
  • Advises several parties on the Heat Act and the corporate and contractual structure for WKO projects and ESCO's. 
  • Advises DONG on its participation in the first Dutch LNG re-gasification terminal. This terminal (the GATE terminal) is being developed by Gasunie and Vopak.
  • Advises Dutch energy company DELTA on the development of a 870 MW CCGT power plant located in the Sloe area in the province of Zeeland. The plant is a joint venture between DELTA and EDF. Advises a Dutch utility on the development of a biomass plant.
  • Advises Vestas Offshore on the service agreement relating to offshore wind farm Noordzeewind.
  • Advises Shell and NUON on the construction of the first offshore wind farm in the Netherlands.
  • Participates in litigation on behalf of E.ON Benelux with respect to their entitlement to subsidies under PPA'’s for wind energy.
  • Advises a Dutch bank and an Italian joint venture party on the corporate structure and development of photovoltaic projects in Italy.
  • Advises sponsors and banks on several onshore wind farms.
  • Advises a Dutch energy company on the sale of its photovoltaic activities.
