CMS Poland expands its banking practice

31 July 2017

CMS has strengthened its Banking and Finance practice by hiring Ilona Fedurek, a qualified Polish advocate with over ten years’ experience in transactional financing and advising the banking sector. As a counsel at CMS in Warsaw, Ilona will continue to develop her practice in transactional financing, with a particular focus on acquisition finance and real estate finance.

Over the last ten years, Ilona has led numerous Polish and international loan transactions, corporate and real estate acquisition financings, (including acquisitions of hotels, shopping centres and office buildings). She also has experience in the financing of large investment projects (project finance), including financing the development of B8 oil field in the Baltic Sea.

She also specialises in advising financial institutions on share acquisitions and the outsourcing of banking services.

A law graduate from the University of Wrocław, Ilona has spent the last ten years working for White & Case, including from its London office.

Mark Segall, Head of Banking & Finance in Poland and CEE: “We are delighted that Ilona’s knowledge and experience will strengthen our existing practice and can be offered to our clients in Poland and across the CEE region. Growth of our Warsaw Banking team confirms our plans for further dynamic expansion in all our main areas of expertise such as acquisition finance, real estate finance, project and export finance, banking regulatory and restructuring and insolvency”.

The CMS Banking and Finance team of 20 lawyers led by Mark Segall, partner and head of Banking and Finance across Central Eastern Europe, is ranked as a leading team of transactional and regulatory advisers to the banking sector in Poland. CMS lawyers have recently been involved some of the highest-profile projects on the Polish market, such as CVC’s acquisition of the Żabka Polska retail chain and the financing of the acquisition of a majority stake in Wirtualna Polska S.A. On the real estate market, CMS’s recent track record includes working for the Pradera investment fund on the acquisition of Polish and Czech-based assets from Ikea Centres and advising on Invesco’s acquisition of the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Kraków. CMS lawyers have also been involved in the restructuring of the Kopex Group, which was one of the largest restructuring transactions in Poland in the recent times. It was also one of the first and one of the largest restructuring projects in Poland since the entry into force of a substantially amended bankruptcy law and a new restructuring law.
