CMS expands real estate team in Poland

7 July 2017

CMS has expanded its Real Estate and Construction Department, bolstering the team with a new counsel and four new transaction lawyers. At the beginning of July Katarzyna Dębińska-Pietrzyk joined the team as a counsel. Together with the partners, she will develop the real estate practice, which is already ranked among the leaders on the Polish market. In addition, the CMS real estate teams in Warsaw and Poznań have acquired four new lawyers: Andrzej Zając, lawyer and senior associate, Jagoda Guzik, lawyer and associate, and lawyers Izabela Kultys and Bartłomiej Barański.

The addition of new, experienced lawyers confirms the CMS real estate team’s plans to further develop its activity in this market in Poland. Together with the new team members, the department numbers over 30 lawyers.

Katarzyna Dębińska-Pietrzyk joined the CMS team in July. She has nearly 15 years’ experience of advising on real estate issues and has worked at Baker McKenzie for the past 11 years. Her professional experience includes complex real estate transactions, both domestic and international (asset deals/share deals/portfolios). She also specialises in investments in shopping centres and other commercial real estate. She has extensive experience of working with private equity funds. Katarzyna has successfully led advisory teams in commercial property transactions, working with leading players in these sectors. She is an advocate and a member of the District Bar Association of Warsaw.

Andrzej Zając, who joined CMS in April this year, previously worked at Greenberg Traurig. He is an advocate, with ten years’ experience of legal advisory, specialising in real estate transactions, including real estate financing. He has advised many international and Polish clients from the real estate and banking and finance sectors. He has extensive experience in real estate transactions and investment processes in the office, logistics, commercial and residential markets.

Jagoda Guzik, advocate, joined the CMS real estate team in July. She has six years’ experience in legal services for real estate and infrastructure investments. She particularly specialises in real estate and contract law.

Bartłomiej Barański joined the CMS team in the Poznań office in April. He has five years’ experience of legal advisory, mainly in civil, economic and administrative law. He has participated in reprivatisation processes. For two years he has been closely involved with real estate law, including drafting and evaluating lease and tenancy agreements, writing reports on the legal status of real estate and advising on transmission easements.

Izabela Kultys joined the CMS real estate department in May as a trainee legal advisor. Previously she worked at a law firm specialising in real estate law and at a notary’s office. She has experience in real estate trading as well as providing advisory services to companies.

“The expansion of the real estate team confirms our plans for further development in this sector and our determination to offer our clients the highest quality support, especially in real estate transactions,” says Wojciech Koczara, partner managing the CMS real estate department in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe. “By combining our existing expertise with the expertise of our new team members, we will be able to better respond to our clients’ business needs.”

CMS’s Real Estate Department currently numbers over 30 lawyers and is ranked by international rankings among the leading real estate teams on the Polish market. Recently the team received the prestigious “Manufacturing Excellence Award 2017” in the category “Law Firm”. Recently completed projects include: advising the Pradera investment fund in Poland and Czech Republic on the acquisition of a portfolio of 25 shopping centres in eight European countries; advising on the acquisition of the Fashion House Outlet shopping malls in Piaseczno, Gdańsk and Sosnowiec; advising Pramerica Real Estate International AG on the sale of a property portfolio in Poland, Slovenia and Czech Republic; and consultancy for the general contractor working on the Nowa Łódź Fabryczna station and railway line.
