CMS advises on advises on investment in GateWay Education by ChangedEDU Holdings

13 July 2017

CMS has advised on the investment by Singapore-based ChangedEDU Holdings into UK-headquartered GateWay Education, a leading provider of international student programmes to UK and US independent schools.

GateWay, founded in 2004 by CEO Henry Qu, partners with independent day and boarding schools to advise and support them in running an international programme for Chinese students. This includes sourcing high quality students, and providing accommodation and guardianship support during their stay. Having founded and led GateWay from inception to become one of the leading market providers in the UK and US, Henry Qu was keen to identify the right partner with the scale and operational expertise to support the business in its next stage of growth.

Following a competitive process, GateWay has successfully partnered with ChangedEDU Holdings, a Singapore-based education company founded by Brian Rogove in 2016 in partnership with Verlinvest, a Belgium-based family investment office.

The CMS team was led by corporate partner Alasdair Steele and included corporate associates Harriet Serpis and Emmanuelle Ronez and trainee Remy Browning, tax partner Nick Burt and senior associate Andrew Brooker, real estate senior associate Daniel Glowacz and intellectual property partner Louise Gellman and associate Abigail Ash. ChangedEDU Holdings was advised by Eversheds Sutherland.

Commenting on the transaction, corporate partner Alasdair Steele said:

“Gateway is a great success story operating across the UK, US and China and we were delighted to be able to help Henry and Gateway as it takes this next step in its continuing growth.”
