CMS advises ALPLA on acquisition in South Africa

ALPLA, a leading provider of plastic packaging worldwide, has entered into an agreement to acquire Boxmore Packaging, headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa, an African market leader in packaging. Signing of the transaction occurred on 5 July 2017, closing is subject to applicable regulatory and competition approvals. Financial terms of the transaction remain confidential.

ALPLA, a leading provider of plastic packaging worldwide, has entered into an agreement to acquire Boxmore Packaging, headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa, an African market leader in packaging. Signing of the transaction occurred on 5 July 2017, closing is subject to applicable regulatory and competition approvals. Financial terms of the transaction remain confidential.

Boxmore Packaging specialises in PET pre-forms, PET bottles and closures, and currently employs around 1,000 members of staff at nine locations. The company's customers are situated in more than 20 African countries, as well as on the islands in the Indian Ocean.

CMS under lead partner Alexander Rakosi (Corporate/M&A) functions as the lead-counsel for ALPLA on the transaction, the core team further consists of Lisa Oberlechner (attorney-at-law; Corporate/M&A). Dieter Zandler (partner; Competition), Sibylle Novak (partner, Tax), Marie-Christine Lidl (associate; Corporate/M&A) and Arno Scharf (associate; Corporate/M&A) are providing valuable support. ENSafrica is handling all matters of South African law. GCA Altium is the client's financial advisor.
