The Belgrade Airport Concession, a transaction advised by CMS Belgrade, awarded the European Airports Deal of the Year 2018 by IJ Global Awards, in London!
IJ Global, the market intelligence platform covering the global infrastructure finance, has awarded its prestigious IJ Global Awards at the annual awards ceremony held on the 21 March 2019 at the Natural History Museum, London. The Belgrade Airport Concession has been awarded the European Airports Deal of the Year 2018 becoming the first Serbian transaction to have ever been awarded this respected industry award.
About the deal:
In the past year, CMS Belgrade continued providing legal support and assistance to the Serbian Government in the consortium of Lazard, Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP and KPMG, in the strategic development of the largest airport in Serbia and the second largest airport on the Balkans – Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport.
The concession agreement was signed on 22 March 2018. In December 2018, the transaction was completed and Vinci took over the operation of the Airport. This is the first real concession project in Serbia in the past 20 years and by far the most complex. The project has, for the first time, required the implementation and interaction between different regulations governing different business sectors – concessions, PPPs, air traffic control, airport operation, securities, etc.
In total, more than 20 of our colleagues have been engaged on this project that lasted for more than two and a half years, and we are proud to have contributed to the successful implementation and conclusion of this milestone transaction for Serbia.
