Successful bridge between science and practice: CMS partner Christoph Wolf appointed an honorary professor

Last Friday, Dr Christoph Wolf (49) was awarded an honorary professorship in the field of employment and social law of the Faculty of Law of the University of Vienna. The appointment is not only a tribute to his extensive scientific work and many years of teaching, but also for his unwavering commitment to combining science and practical work at the highest level.

At home in the field of employment and social law from the very beginning

Christoph Wolf discovered his fascination with the field of employment law right at the start of his career, when he worked as a student assistant at the Institute for Employment and Social Law already during his studies. After completing his studies, he was a contract assistant to Wolfgang Mazal, who was to have a lasting impact on his scientific career. He learned his practical skills as a lawyer from the renowned lawyer specialising in employment law, Bernhard Hainz. In 1999, Christoph Wolf earned his doctorate in law, and in 2000 he was admitted to the list of Austrian lawyers. He has been a partner and managing associate of CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz Rechtsanwälte GmbH since 2004.

Driven by curiosity

His love for science has been a permanent companion of Christoph Wolf during his time of practising law. It is an expression of his “insatiable curiosity and his personal ambition to never stop learning and to promote lifelong learning in others – especially in the field of law”. This curiosity and sound scientific background has led to a very impressive level of publication activity. This ranges from a comprehensive systematisation of working time law (in Mazal/Risak, system and practical commentary) to thematically broad-based contributions dealing, for example, with topics such as share options for management board members or the right to employment for scientists.

Above all, being awarded an honorary professorship serves to recognise this publication activity and as an appreciation of Christoph Wolf’s twenty years and more of solidarity with his academic home, the Institute for Employment and Social Law at the University of Vienna.

As an attorney-at-law

Christoph Wolf is one of the leading experts in Austrian employment law. He advises companies in all areas of judicial and extrajudicial employment law matters, before domestic and European supreme courts. His advice also includes the implementation of restructuring measures, negotiation of company agreements, severance schemes, and disputes with works councils and employees.

Another focus of his work is looking after companies that have been outsourced from the state administration. He also deals with all employment law-related topics in the area of compliance projects. He has been listed by Chambers in Volume 1 as a leading expert in employment law for many years.
