Editorial

Dear reader

With the summer holidays now over, we have returned to work to find the economy in better shape than we left it in last June.

Improving economic indicators published by various national and international authorities, such as the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development announcing encouraging growth statistics for Europe, the US and Japan; The US department of Labor reporting a falling unemployment; or our Belgian Federal Planning Bureau forecasting growth instead of stagnation this year, seem to have lifted the mood across the economy.

While improved confidence is great, we should not forget that the growth is still small and fragile. It will need nurturing to grow stronger. We are in a better position than we were three months ago, but the road is still long to full recovery.

Meanwhile, we all have to do our bit and innovate. Whether through creation of new businesses, more efficient production, the development of new ideas into new products or new uses, innovation is the cornerstone of renewed economic success and we, CMS, are there to help you on this path.

In this issue we touch upon such topics as: tax reductions to stimulate new investment in small and medium-sized businesses, the EC’s proposals for a revision of trademark regulations to improve companies’ access to the system and its flexibility, a new flexible public procurement procedure and much more.

Have an enjoyable read.
