CMS recognised by Mergermarket as "German M&A Legal Adviser of the Year"

14/12/2015

Berlin – CMS Germany has been recognised as "German M&A Legal Adviser of the Year" by Mergermarket at this year's European M&A Awards. Mergermarket is an independent news agency and database for mergers and acquisitions in Europe.

The award is in recognition of M&A performance in 2015. Dr Maximilian Grub, partner at CMS and head of the Corporate and Transactions practice, said: "We are absolutely delighted to receive this prestigious award. It underlines the dynamic performance of our M&A practice in Germany in recent years, while also recognising the expertise of our team. This award is a further incentive for us going forward."

CMS Germany regularly outperforms all other law firms by advising on the largest number of M&A transactions with German involvement, making it a front-runner in the German M&A market. At the same time, clients increasingly expect their law firms to deliver across multiple European jurisdictions. Thanks to the international capability of the CMS organisation, CMS increased the number of cross-border transactions handled in conjunction with multiple international CMS offices in 2015. One of the many M&A matters advised on by CMS this year involved the Holtzbrinck Publishing Group. An international CMS team led by Dr Thomas Meyding advised Holtzbrinck on all legal aspects of the merger between Macmillan Science and Education and Springer Science+Business Media, creating a joint venture with 13,000 employees and sales of around EUR 1.5 billion.

CMS has also advised on a number of transactions in recent years related to German’s energy turnaround policy. In one of the projects, a team from CMS Germany’s Hamburg office headed by partners Dr Holger Kraft, Dr Christian von Lenthe and Dr Marc Riede successfully advised on the legal structuring and financing of the offshore Veja Mate wind farm, where total project investment is EUR 1.9 billion.

The award was presented on 8 December at the Banqueting House in London. The high-calibre jury comprised an independent committee of fourteen experts. This year's jury consisted of senior executives from Credit Suisse, McDermott Will & Emery, Liberty Global, HSBC, Syngenta International AG, DHL Central Europe, Arx Equity Partners, Penta Investments, ABN Amro Escrow & Settlement, Intralinks, GE, M&A Research Centre, Mergermarket and Dealreporter.
