Making a difference

Our commitment to the environment

We manage the impact we have as a business on the environment and empower our people to make positive environmental changes.

We have an environmental policy in place, are members of the Legal Sustainability Alliance, and demonstrate our commitment to environmental responsibility through carbon emission-, paper- and waste-reduction initiatives, as well as an extensive recycling programme.

Spotlight on CMS’s CEE offices

CMS UK and its international offices are committed to reaching Net Zero by 2025. This commitment is backed by Science Based Targets to ensure independent, scientific verification of our progress.

In addition, we also take part in the CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project) disclosure system, which enables companies, cities, states and regions to measure and manage their environmental impacts. We scored an impressive and first “A-” for our own Climate Change activity, and “A-” for our work with our supply chain. We have been listed on CDP’s 2020 Supplier Engagement Leaderboard by working with our suppliers to reduce their emissions.

Sustainability and environment

Environment, climate, sustainability. These are the important topics of our time whose solution will determine the quality of our future. We are fully aware of the environmental impact the everyday operation of our offices can have on a global scale. Therefore, we try to have a positive impact on the individual aspects which we can influence, and thereby decrease the negative environmental impacts. The basis of our approach is the obligation towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals, a set of 17 goals for governments, companies and individuals to transform our world that focuses on the present challenges.

As part of our permanent obligations towards the environment, all of our CEE offices have taken meaningful measures and steps, including effective waste recycling, elimination of plastic, elimination of single-use plastic containers, lowering the amount of paper used for printing, and help and support with cleaning public areas. All of our CEE offices jointly take part in the CMS environmental days initiative, where each month of the year is dedicated to a different environmental and sustainability topic. Each topic is then supported through initiatives both at the CEE and local level. For example, in March a virtual office quiz was organised for all CMS offices where the main topic was Water Day. The quiz participants as well as all CMS offices in CEE donated to Doctors without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontiéres), who among other activities also provide drinkable water supplies to refugee camps.

Spotlight on CMS Prague

The Prague office is a keen supporter of the CMS environmental days initiative. The majority of our staff commute to work by public transport in support of a car-free city, a number of colleagues even cycle to work on shared e-bikes or bikes. The Prague office has eliminated single-use plastics and replaced them with more environmentally friendly items.

In the sustainability project, the Prague office has recently managed to convince the operator of the Palladium building, in which our offices are located, to start recycling shredded materials from the offices. We further achieved effective waste recycling by all colleagues in the office.

Prague office staff volunteer on an individual basis to help improve the environment. One popular project is Ukliďme Česko (Let’s clean up the Czech Republic), which connects volunteers around the Czech Republic to clean up illegal dump sites and clutter in natural areas.
