Webinar: Bridges and Walls: How can German Companies Send Employees to the U.S. in This Time of Travel and Visa Bans?

Operations are global and so is the workforce in our modern world. From medium-sized enterprises to multinational corporations, German companies operating in the United States used to frequently send their German employees to work at their U.S. operations. Moving employees across the Atlantic has been and still is a key tool for managing local U.S. operations and for streamlining the entire business, both strategically and on a daily basis.

Common strategies and practices are no longer a given in times of COVID-19. U.S. travel bans intended to limit the spread of COVID-19 have made it much more complicated, if not impossible, for German companies to send employees to the United States. On top of these challenges, on June 22, 2020, the U.S. President declared a general ban on certain non-immigrant visas. The stated purpose of this ban is to protect the U.S. labor market from competition by foreign workers. From the perspective of a foreign company, the visa ban effectively limits the way in which U.S. operations can be staffed. This latest ban is likely to have a negative effect on the ability to successfully run local operations.

In this webinar, we will take a closer look at what U.S. travel and visa bans mean for German companies. Is it still possible to send employees to the U.S. in this time of travel and visa bans? Are there strategies companies can introduce in order to staff their U.S. operations? Will the travel and visa bans be a temporary phenomenon or are they likely to remain a new normal when COVID-19 is contained if the economic downturn persists?
