CMS advises REWE on investment in beverage delivery service Durst

28/02/2020

Cologne – The REWE Group has acquired a stake in Cologne-based start-up Durststrecke GmbH (Durst), marking its entry into the growing online home delivery market for beverages. Durst is an innovator in this market due to the way it connects existing logistics structures in the beverage wholesale trade with end customers. The model sees Durst acting as a platform for handling beverage orders. This business area complements the existing structures of the REWE Group and of FÜR SIE Handelsgenossenschaft eG, which is also involved in the deal. The content of the agreements was not disclosed. Durst was established in 2017 as an ordering and delivery platform. The company is one of the drivers of digitisation in the beverage trade in both the B2C and B2B space.

A CMS team headed by lead partner Dr Richard Mayer-Uellner advised REWE on all legal aspects of the transaction.

The cooperative REWE Group is one of the leading retail and tourism companies in Germany and Europe. In 2018, the company generated total external sales of more than EUR 61 billion. Founded in 1927, the REWE Group has a presence in 22 European countries and employs more than 360,000 people.
