CMS advises Telefónica Deutschland on consolidating its locations

24/05/2019

Hamburg – Having completed the integration of E-Plus and in view of the financial impact of the auctions for the new 5G mobile frequencies, Telefónica Deutschland is seeking to further enhance its competitiveness. The offices in Hanover, Cologne and Frankfurt will be relocated to Hamburg and Düsseldorf in this context to reduce complexity.

A CMS team headed by lead partner Dr Daniel Ludwig is advising Telefónica Deutschland during the strategic preparations for consolidating its locations and on ongoing negotiations related to a reconciliation of interests and social plan. The team led by Dr Daniel Ludwig previously advised Telefónica in spring 2019 on legal aspects relating to the ongoing reorganisation of its business customer sales activities. In addition to negotiations around a reconciliation of interests and social plan, a voluntary redundancy scheme and a staff placement process were agreed at the time. Dr Daniel Ludwig, a partner in CMS’s Hamburg office, and Dr Nina Hartmann, a partner in the law firm’s Munich office, have been advising Telefónica Deutschland for a number of years on all individual and collective employment matters.

Telefónica Deutschland Holding AG, which is part of Spanish telecommunications group Telefónica, has been listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange since 2012, on the TecDAX since 2013 and on the MDAX since 2018. With some 49.5 million customer connections, the company is a leading integrated telecommunications provider. Telefónica Deutschland has more than 45 million customers in the mobile segment alone. In the 2018 financial year, Telefónica Deutschland had almost 9,000 employees and generated sales of around EUR 7.3 billion.
