Global partnership with Advocates for International Development

13/07/2010

Frankfurt/Main – CMS is partnering globally with Advocates for International Development (A4ID), reinforcing the commitment of the leading European organisation of law firms to international pro bono projects. Working with A4ID enables the 2,400 or so CMS lawyers in 53 offices worldwide to leverage their cross-border and interdisciplinary expertise more specifically, quickly and more efficiently for good causes. CMS law firms already provide support to A4ID in individual countries. The new partnership now expands participation by CMS to all 27 jurisdictions where it operates.

A4ID provides free legal advice and assistance to the developing world, allowing internationally successful lawyers to contribute their professional skills to humanitarian projects. As an award-winning international pro bono player, A4ID provides free legal advice to more than 200 aid organisations. Examples of requests for assistance include:

• Setting up and transferring funds to support humanitarian initiatives in Africa
• Training microfinance institutions on banking law in the Middle East
• Restructuring measures for global development organisations
• Employment and risk management guidance for agencies operating in post-conflict zones

In addition to involvement in A4ID, the law firms in the CMS organisation also provide advice and support for many other national and regional charitable and environmental projects.
