CMS Hasche Sigle advises 3i on the acquisition of a holding in Gries-Depot company

02/12/2004

The financial investor 3i has acquired an interest in the rapidly growing retail chain "Das Depot" in the course of a generation change. Headed by its Frankfurt partner Katja Pohl, a team from CMS Hasche Sigle advised the financial investor on the acquisition of a total holding of 40 %. At the same time the former main shareholder, Michael Gries, transferred the majority of his holding to his son, Christian Gries, director of "Das Depot". The company, established in 1948 and originally only active in wholesale market has been expanded by Christian Gries in recent years into a successful and expanding retail trader of decor items, gifts and living accessories. The plan is to increase the current 60 branches in Germany and abroad in the next few years to up to 150 retail outlets in Germany alone.
Katja Pohl (corporate) was assisted by Till B. Liebau and Dr Markus Rasner (both corporate and due diligence) and by Dr Stefan Lehr (competition law).
