CMS Hasche Sigle advises Cipio Partners on the acquisition of a Siemens Venture Capital communications portfolio

24/09/2007

Siemens Venture Capital is selling a Siemens communications portfolio to funds managed by Cipio Partners. A team of CMS Hasche Sigle lawyers led by Dr Ulrich Springer advised Cipio Partners on all aspects of one of the biggest "secondary direct" portfolio takeovers of the last few years.

The portfolio contains virtually all the investments of the Siemens Venture Capital Communications Fund through which Siemens has made numerous direct investments in established technology companies in the field of semi-conductors, optical components and communications systems in Europe, the USA and Israel since 1999. At the beginning of 2007 Siemens AG contributed its communications activities to joint venture Nokia Siemens Networks. Key data of the transaction were not disclosed.

Cipio Partners is one of the market leaders in secondary direct transactions. Established mid-2003, with offices in Munich and San Jose, Ca, Cipio Partners manages an international portfolio of early and late-stage venture capital and mid-market investments with a value of several hundred million euro. Cipio Partners focuses its investment activities on the IT, communications and media sectors.

Siemens Venture Capital is the corporate venture organisation for the entire Siemens group. To date it has invested over 700 million euro in over 100 start-up companies and 35 venture capital funds – primarily in the USA, Europe and Israel, ranking among the most active corporate venture capital investors worldwide.
