CMS Hasche Sigle advises Coherent, Inc. on acquisition of Lumera Laser

Coherent, Inc., headquartered in Santa Clara, California, USA, has acquired Lumera Laser GmbH from the ATON Group.

A team from CMS Hasche Sigle led by lead partners Dr Heike Wagner and Till Liebau advised Nasdaq-listed Coherent, Inc. on all aspects of the transaction. The purchase price is in the mid double-digit range, measured in millions of euros.

Headquartered in Kaiserslautern, Germany, Lumera Laser is a leading manufacturer of high-frequency lasers used in microelectronics, materials processing and medical technology. The acquisition rounds off Coherent's product range of high-frequency lasers for industrial use by expanding the company's offering in this rapidly growing market.

Coherent is a world-leading manufacturer of lasers and optical components for industrial and scientific applications. It employs some 2,300 people in its global operations and generated sales of around USD 800 million in 2011. In Germany, the company has research facilities and sales offices in Dieburg, Lübeck and Göttingen.

Just a few weeks ago, Coherent expanded its German operations by acquiring Hanover-based InnoLight Innovative Laser GmbH. CMS Hasche Sigle again advised long-standing client Coherent on the transaction.
