CMS Hasche Sigle advises DFL Sports Enterprises on invitation to tender for innovative e-gaming rights packages

04/04/2011

Hamburg / Cologne / Frankfurt am Main – DFL Sports Enterprises, acting on behalf of the German Football League Association, has invited tenders for the licensing rights to interactive entertainment products relating to the Bundesliga’s first and second division. The procedure allows more competition in the award of rights by offering individual packages as part of a sophisticated modular structure.

Andy Meyer, Director of Sales Sponsoring & Licensing at DFL Sports Enterprises, and Benjamin Bertelmann, LL.M., the DFL Sports Enterprises’ legal counsel, managed the invitation to tender. A team from CMS Hasche Sigle led by media and sports law experts Dr Sebastian Cording and Dr Pietro Graf Fringuelli advised on design and implementation.

The invitation to tender comprised several rights packages for simulation of football matches and manager activities (match and manager simulation). The packages were categorised by offline and online use, e.g. for games consoles, PC and exclusively online use (browser games). Also available for the first time was a rights package for simulation of an official virtual Bundesliga competition, called "E-Sport Bundesliga".
