Stuttgart – With effect from 1 June 2009, Georg von Holtzbrinck GmbH is selling its 100% stake in both the Handelsblatt publishing group and Berlin-based Tagesspiegel group as well as a 50% shareholding in Hamburg publisher ZEIT-Verlag to Dieter von Holtzbrinck Medien GmbH.
A team from CMS Hasche Sigle, led by Dr Thomas Meyding and Dr Maximilian Grub, advised Georg von Holtzbrinck GmbH on all aspects of the transaction.
The sale enables the Georg von Holtzbrinck publishing group to settle its liabilities to Dieter von Holtzbrinck and his foundation. These commitments were agreed when Dieter von Holtzbrinck left the Georg von Holtzbrinck publishing group in January 2006. In addition, the transaction provides the publishing group with greater scope for realising its strategic plans at a time of global recession.
