CMS Hasche Sigle advises Holtzbrinck on its move into mobile TV business

19/10/2006

The Georg von Holtzbrinck publishing group is planning to move into mobile TV activities with media group Hubert Burda Media.

Burda and Holtzbrinck have each acquired a one-third interest in NEVA Media GmbH. Other shareholders in NEVA Media GmbH are the founders Bernd Curanz, Paulus Neef, Christiane zu Salm and Horst Piepenburg, who hold the remaining third. NEVA Media GmbH is one of the pioneers in development of applications for the new technical DVB-H standard which makes possible mobile reception of TV programmes, videos and media services on small hand-held devices such as mobile phones. In the coming months a DVB-H network covering most of Germany is to be set up. NEVA Media has already filed applications for platform licences with the regional media authorities in Berlin-Brandenburg, Hamburg and Lower Saxony. The interest in the publishing houses in NEVA Media is still subject to the approval of the German cartel authorities.

A team of lawyers from CMS Hasche Sigle headed by Stuttgart partner Dr Maximilian Grub advised Verlagsgruppe Georg von Holtzbrinck and carried out the negotiations with Burda and NEVA Media.
