The NASDAQ-listed Bruker BioSciences Corporation has acquired the Bruker BioSpin group from the
Laukien family for a purchase price of EUR 620 million which will be paid in cash and assets. A
team of lawyers from CMS Hasche Sigle led by Dr Hendrik Hirsch advised the Laukien family, which
was the sole owner, on all aspects of this transaction. The transaction is still subject to the
approval of Bruker BioSciences Corporation's shareholders and the clearance from the competition
authorities. This is likely at the beginning of 2008.
Bruker develops and distributes analytical instruments such as spectroscopes for applications in
biotechnology, genetic research, development of pharmaceutical products and the analysis of
foodstuffs. Bruker's customers include primarily universities, research labs and the chemical and
pharmaceutical industries.
The Bruker Biospin group is the latest addition to Bruker BioSciences Corporation, which already
includes Bruker Daltonics, Bruker Optics and Bruker AXS. The group's principal locations are
Switzerland, Germany, France and the USA. It has operations in over 25 places and is represented at
over 70 locations in more than 60 countries. Bruker employs over 3700 employees worldwide. The
expected turnover of the group for 2007 is over USD 900 million.
