CMS Hasche Sigle advises Northland Power Inc. on the acquisition of an 85% majority in the offshore wind park "Nordsee One”

04/09/2014

Hamburg – CMS Hasche Sigle has advised the Canadian power producer Northland Power Inc. on the acquisition of an 85% majority in the offshore wind parks Nordsee One, Nordsee Two and "Nordsee Three" from the German utility RWE's daughter company RWEI Innogy.
The offshore wind farm "Nordsee One" is located approximately 40 kilometres north of the German island of Juist in the German Exclusive Economic Zone. From 2016 onwards, 54 turbines with a combined capacity of approximately 332 MW will be erected there. The turbines are expected to generate 1,300 gigawatt hours per year and will, from 2017 onwards, supply approximately 400,000 German households with energy. The development of this offshore wind farm is already far progressed.

The projects "Nordsee Two" and "Nordsee Three" have a combined capacity of approximately 670 MW and are located directly adjacent to "Nordsee One". Both projects have already been granted the necessary permits by the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency. Both projects are planned to be realized within the years following commissioning of "Nordsee One".

The cooperation of Northland Power Inc. and RWE is a new approach with regard to the efficient realization of the project "Nordsee One". Northland Power Inc. is a Canadian power producer and has its corporate seat in Toronto. Northland Power Inc. has a vast experience in the project development, the construction, the operation as well as the financing of power plants in the renewable sector. RWE Innogy is a daughter company of the German utility RWE and steers the projects of RWEI in the renewables sector.

Holger Kraft, Hilke Herchen and Eckart Gottschalk of the Hamburg office of CMS Hasche Sigle were the lead partners advising Northland Power Inc. in this deal. CMS Hasche Sigle has advised Northland Power Inc. for quite some time already in the German market.
