CMS Hasche Sigle advises Stadtwerke München on acquisition of five onshore wind farms

10/08/2009

Stuttgart – Stadtwerke München GmbH, Munich's municipal utility company, has acquired five onshore wind farms in the federal states of Brandenburg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saxony-Anhalt from wpd think energy.

A team from CMS Hasche Sigle led by Dr Jochen Lamb advised Stadtwerke München on all aspects of this Cleantech transaction. Recently, a cross-border team from the CMS organisation led by CMS Hasche Sigle also supported Stadtwerke München when investing in the Andasol 3 solar energy power plant in Southern Spain.

The five new onshore wind farms in Germany comprise 25 wind power plants produced by Enercon and Vestas with a total output of 50 MW. This boosts Stadtwerke München's annual production of "green" electricity by a further 100 gigawatt hours (100 million kWh), enough to meet the annual needs of around 40,000 households. Compared to conventional power stations, CO2 savings of some 60,000 tonnes a year can be achieved.

The wind farms were planned and built by wpd think energy, one of Europe's leading wind energy companies. Headquartered in Bremen, wpd develops, markets and operates onshore and offshore wind farms. The group has already seen 1,400 wind power plants through to completion and has 2,600 MW of capacity under technical and commercial management. Operational responsibility for the five wind farms now acquired by Stadtwerke München will also be handled by wpd think energy.
