The opening ceremony of the Science Center Phæno with its avantgarde architecture took place on
24.11.2005 in Wolfsburg in the presence of the Ministerpräsident of Lower Saxony Wulff, the
chairman of the board of directors of VW Pischetsrieder and the mayor Schnellecke. CMS Hasche Sigle
advised the subsidiary acting for the town of Wolfsburg, Neuland Wohnungsgesellschaft mbH, on the
planning and construction of the museum.
In an international architectural competition the draft by the London star architect and
Pritzker award winner Zaha Hadid was selected. With her draft she created a futuristic place
greatly admired in the press and in professional circles which was also christened
"extraterrestrial marvel". The construction with craters, terraces, plateaus, underground caves and
without a single right angle was particularly challenging for the architects, structural engineers
and construction companies, For more information on the building please see
