CMS Hasche Sigle mourns the death of Dr Dieter Straub

07/01/2013

Munich – CMS Hasche Sigle partner Dieter Straub passed away unexpectedly on 30 December 2012 after a short illness. He was 62. We were deeply shocked to learn of his sudden death. It is a profoundly painful loss for all of us and for the firm.

Dieter Straub devoted himself wholeheartedly to employment law. After completing his doctoral thesis, he joined the firm when he was 27, remaining with it for 35 years. He was Munich’s first specialist lawyer for employment law and helped to develop this area of law as a member of the employment law committee of Munich Chamber of Lawyers. He was one of Germany’s most respected employment lawyers, in both the national and international arenas. DAX 30 listed companies and well-known SMEs sought his advice when difficult employment law problems called for special expertise, sensitivity and skill.

Dieter Straub was also a prominent speaker and author of specialist publications. A special highlight is the Working Handbook on Personnel. The 8th edition was published in 2012 under his guidance as editor and author, together with a number of CMS lawyers as co-authors.

We will miss him greatly as a highly regarded partner and good friend and will cherish his memory. We extend our condolences in particular to his bereaved family and his daughters.
