CMS Hasche Sigle secures further victory for Klitschko brothers: Universum concedes defeat in action for damages

01/02/2010

Hamburg – All court proceedings involving the split between Hamburg-based boxing promoter Universum and boxing world champions Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko have now come to an end. Universum has withdrawn a final action for damages pending against the Klitschko brothers. In November 2009, the Federal Court of Justice had ruled in favour of the Klitschkos after years of legal wrangling. In doing so it removed the basis for any compensation claims on the part of the boxing stable.

Dr Sebastian Cording, sports law expert and partner at CMS Hasche Sigle: "We had expected Universum to withdraw its case immediately after the Federal Court of Justice denied leave to appeal. By its own admission, Universum sought to avert defeat by appealing to the Federal Constitutional Court. That attempt seems to have clearly failed."

A team from CMS Hasche Sigle led by lead partner Dr Sebastian Cording advised and represented Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko from the outset in all proceedings concerning the split from Universum.
