CMS management changes: Chairman Cornelius Brandi re-appointed for four-year term, Director of Operations Matthew Gorman promoted to Executive Director

14/02/2011

Frankfurt – CMS announces that Cornelius Brandi’s term as Chairman of the CMS Executive Committee has been extended for four years, until 30 June 2015. Mr. Brandi was first appointed in 2008 for a three-year term.

“Cornelius has been an outstanding Chairman, providing strong leadership during an important time for CMS,” explained Pierre Sebastien-Thill, Managing Partner of CMS Bureau Francis Lefebvre and member of the CMS Executive Committee. “There is unanimous agreement among the Executive Committee that he should continue in the role.”

During the past three years, CMS has successfully implemented the key convergence projects agreed in January 2008, following an extensive strategic review by Deloitte. Theresult is a business model unique in the European legal market, whereby clients benefit from the deep local expertise in 28 countries and pan-European capability. “By any measure, CMS today ranks in the top tier amo providers,” said Mr. Brandi. “I am honoured to continue in my role as Chairman as we start the next chapter as a leader in Europe.”

Mr. Brandi’s role as Chairman will also be expanded from 1 July 2011, in response to a review of the governance of CMS. The review was prompted by current CMS Executive Partner Dick Tyler’s decision last autumn to return to CMS Cameron McKenna as a partner when he completes his term of office this summer. Mr. Tyler has been on secondment from CMS Cameron McKenna as CMS Executive Partner since 2008.

In addition to expanding the role of Chairman, CMS is also appointing current Director of Operations, Matthew Gorman, to the position of CMS Executive Director from 1 July 2011. Matthew will work closely with Mr. Brandi and, in addition to leading the CMS Legal Services team in Frankfurt, will take on some of Mr. Tyler’s responsibilities for executing the CMS strategy.

“It has been a privilege to serve as Executive Partner,” said Dick Tyler. “In 2008, I set the objective of completing the key convergence projects and taking CMS to the next level in its development. With the help of some very talented people, I am proud that we have met that objective.”
