CMS recognises academic achievement in the field of legal comparison German-French CMS Prize goes to Dr Ralf Schnieders

10/06/2009

Berlin – The 2008 German-French CMS Prize for a thesis with a transnational theme goes to Dr Ralf Schnieders. CMS Hasche Sigle and its French partner firm CMS Bureau Francis Lefebvre jointly conferred the award on Schnieders for his study entitled “The Delegation of Public Rail Passenger Transport Services – A Legal Comparison of Germany and France”.

“Ralf Schnieders’s thesis stands out because of the original and highly relevant subject, while its masterful combination of legal theory and practical experience provides very valuable insights,” comments Dr Gerd Leutner, partner at CMS Hasche Sigle and a member of the jury.

The CMS Prize carries a cash sum of 5,000 euro and has been awarded jointly since 2005 by CMS Hasche Sigle and CMS Bureau Francis Lefebvre for a postgraduate thesis on a subject of commercial law relevance that compares the legal situation in Germany and France. The prize alternates between French and German recipients each year. Dr Schnieders will receive the CMS Prize for the best 2008 thesis at a reception in Berlin’s China Club on 10 June 2009. The congratulatory address will be delivered by the Minister of Federal, European and Media Affairs of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, Andreas Krautscheid.

The winners in previous years were:

2005: Daniel Brandstätter and Raphaël Sergi with a thesis entitled: “Le squeeze out Etude comparatiste des dispositifs français et allemand de retrait obligatoire” (The Squeeze-out – A Legal Comparison of How Minority Shareholders Can be Excluded in France and Germany)

2006: Thomas Richter with his “Comparison of Civil Companies in German Law and in French Law, in the Light of the Recent Case Law of the Federal Supreme Court”

2007: Nathalie Crucifix with “Entre attractivité fiscale et contraintes budgétaires: les évolutions récentes de la fiscalité des entreprises en Allemagne et en France, étude comparée” (Between Tax Attractiveness and Budget Restraints: Recent Statutory Developments of the Corporation Tax System in Germany and in France – A Comparative Law Study)
