Competition law success: CMS advises Meda on acquisition of Rottapharm Madaus

09/03/2015

Hamburg – Swedish specialty pharma company Meda has acquired Italian company Rottapharm Madaus for around EUR 2.3 billion. Following the announcement of the transaction in the summer of 2014, all the competition authorities in the relevant jurisdictions have cleared the transaction. Led by Hamburg-based partner Dr Tim Reher, CMS coordinated the competition law filings across Europe in the course of implementing the acquisition on behalf of Meda.

CMS Germany has been advising Meda for many years on issues involving European cartel law. Meda is a leading European company in the specialty pharmamarket. The Solna-based firm has a strong focus on marketing and sales and market-adapted product development. With around 5,100 employees, it generated net sales of over 15 billion Swedish krona in the 2014 financial year.
