Berlin – CMS Germany has taken first place in the Communication category at the 12th PMN Management Awards. Amélie von Schmettau, Head of Marketing & Communications at CMS, accepted the trophy at the PMN Award Gala in Frankfurt/Main. The Professional Management Network (PMN) is a network of international commercial law firms and audit companies. The award recognises the “Personal Branding through Social Media” project. The law firm also took second place in the Business Development category for its project entitled “The Pitcher” and second place in the Human Resources category for the “Digital Career Application” project.

In its laudation for the Communication project that garnered first place, the jury praised CMS for coming up with a pragmatic but compelling solution for maintaining lawyers’ distinctive virtual identity through a personal branding concept. At the same time, their social network profiles were linked to a shared law firm identity for added impact, the jury noted.
In the “Personal Branding through Social Media” project, CMS successfully launched a social media webinar series on personal branding on LinkedIn and provided a content automation tool in the shape of the internal Click & Share newsletter. These measures assist CMS lawyers in developing an active and professional social media presence and in successful social selling. The aim is for employees to see themselves as ambassadors for the firm. CMS is able to extend its reach and the lawyers can raise their profile – so both sides benefit. A positive side effect is that the credibility of content created by corporate influencers is greater than that of a branded corporate account.
“The Pitcher” is an internal platform for proposal management. This integrated solution brings together all relevant processes and documents in a central location that is accessible by everyone involved, thereby enabling collaborative, timely pitch preparation with maximum transparency and convenience. Data and events can also be analysed automatically in real time and used for further steps. The new pitch platform has made the entire process more professional and efficient. For CMS, this not only saves a considerable amount of time and makes better use of resources, it also means a huge leap in quality and allows more time to be dedicated to clients.
The “Digital Career Application” digitalises a key part of the CMS promotion process. It enables senior associates and counsel to fill in the documents for their next career step digitally, quickly and easily, and submit them to the relevant bodies within the firm. The tool is available to the Careers Committee as well as to applicants. The modern app is tightly focused on user needs. It makes the promotion process more efficient while also delivering considerable time and cost savings for CMS.
The PMN Management Awards have been used to recognise innovative projects in management and business services within commercial law firms in Germany since 2009. The awards cover seven categories, with the finalists and winners being selected on the basis of projects submitted by individual law firms. A five-member jury consisting of experienced business journalists, former managing partners and business service heads of law firms considers all the entries and chooses the winners. The aim of the awards is to support the development of management and business services within law firms and to highlight success stories.
